Crafty sew and sews raise over $60,000

What started out as five industrious ladies getting together on the verandah of Halcyon Parks’ Rec Club back in 2006 has snowballed into a group of forty women busily sewing for charity. In just six years the group, spearheaded by Janece Palmer, has raised over $60,000 including over $11,500 in the last twelve months for its number one charity, the Caloundra Public Hospital.

Relying on generous donations of materials and items from both the Halcyon Parks community and the general public, this group of charity queens has sewn and stitched over 1,000 care bears and untold amounts of baby clothes, knee rugs, aprons, handbags and more, all to be sold for the cause.

Although an all female group, the girls have no problem corralling the men from Halcyon Parks to do various jobs like collecting donated items and moving boxes of baby clothes. From the humblest of beginnings the Halcyon Parks Craft Group has become quite famous in the Caloundra community, even attracting the local Channel 7 news crew to come out to conduct an interview on the groups charitable activities.

The Craft Group has also shown its generosity within the tight knit Halcyon Parks community with $100 donations to all the new self interest hobby groups including the Halcyon Parks Croquet, Table Tennis, Golf and Lawn Bowls Clubs.
