A historical account of the site
The township of Bli Bli was first established in 1868. The name Halcyon Landing bears tribute to the significance this site provided in linking the east and west sides of the Maroochy River which made farming on the eastern side of the river commercially viable.
The ‘landing’ as it was known back then was the point where motor boats towing punts loaded with cane from the eastern side of the river unloaded their cargo. Horses then pulled the rakes of cane from the punts and on to the tram line at ‘The Landing.’ The cane was then hauled away by steam locos via the man-made tramway cutting through Peppercorn Hill and on to the mill in Nambour. The cutting is part of the Landing site and Halcyon is required to set aside this area for heritage purposes.
